Change is the Only Constant

By now, you already know firsthand that a career isn’t meant to last forever. The estimates of the number of career changes one makes in their lifetime ranges from three to seven. That is just a guess since no one can agree on how to measure a career change. What we all should be able to agree upon is change will happen. How you handle change can and will set you apart.

“Human beings are works in progress that mistakenly think they’re finished.” -Dan Gilbert.

As a career changer, you might find yourself getting caught up with the sense of having to try and figure out the next 30-40 years of your life with your next job. Undoubtedly, your skills and interests will have evolved even over the next 10 years, and you might find yourself doing something that you had never imagined. Your career path is not a freshly paved interstate, smooth, straight, with well lit exit ramps leading you to your next destination; your next job. It is, however, a winding trail with rocks, forks, steep hills and fallen trees, each obstacle creating a new opportunity. An opportunity to grow, learn and develop a portfolio of new skills.

Your ability to showcase the outcomes that you have produced, pushing through despite obstacles is what will set you a part from the pack. As you read today’s inspiration, “You’re Mistaken if You Think Your Career Won’t Change,” by Dr. Marla Gottschalk, Industrial Psychologist, and LinkedIn Influencer; take a few moments to consider how change will affect you.
